Transportation

Santa Maria is located in the heart of Rio Grande do Sul. You can easily arrive in Santa Maria by plane or bus.

Buses arrive from Porto Alegre each hour. The journey takes around 4 hours. The bus station is close to downtown and hotels, but far from the University. Santa Maria Airport is also daily connected with Porto Alegre. The airport is around 12 km away from downtown, however, it is close to the university. In any case, once you are in the airport or in the bus station, we suggest you take a taxi to the hotel or to the event.


Visa & invitation letters

All foreign visitors entering in Brazil must possess a valid passport. The visa requirement depends on the home Country of citizenship. European citizens bearing UE passports in principle do not need a visa in advance of travel. US citizens do need the visa. Other countries, please check with the local Embassy of Brazil or Consular service. For details, delegates are advised to contact the Embassy of Brazil in their countries. Please find the closest Brazilian Consulate service here and, if you have difficulties in obtaining a visa, please contact the Workshop Secretariat.

Upon request the Workshop Secretariat will be pleased to send a personal invitation for participation of the III BWMD. It should be understood that an invitation is only to help participants raise travel funds or to obtain a visa.
