After an enormous traffic jam, we finally made it to the Rio de Janeiro
airport! We left Rio at 10:25pm, on July 24th, and after changing planes in
Miami, we arrived in San Francisco around 10am, local time. We checked in at the
Presidio Inn, in Lombard Street, near the Palace of Fine Arts.
After eating real American food (eggs! bacon! ham!) at
Mel's, a typical American diner, we had a brief visit with Dr. Phil Plait, creator of
the Bad Astronomy website and
left for the Alcatraz tour. (Thanks, Scott!)
We got back to our hotel around 6pm, which barely gave us time to clean up and meet
Scott for dinner. Scott is my host brother, and the mastermind behind my pairing
with the Stockers in Bartlesville. (BIG thanks, Scott!)
We spent most of the next day at the
Exploratorium, at the Palace of Fine Arts.
We only left the Exploratorium very briefly, to eat some lunch
and to go to the Golden Gate Bridge. The weather was awful and the fog was very
dense. We didn't get to see much of the view (or the bridge for that matter).
On to Wichita
We did get a wrong bus, though, and almost ended up at
Daly City. But we managed to get back to the hotel.
We spent our last day in San Francisco (the morning, really) walking around
the Presidio and the Marina. What a lovely city!
We left to Wichita around noon.
